저묾의 바다가 누런빛으로 잔잔히 누웠다.
수평선 위로 작은 배 한 척이 멀리 떠 간다. 가까이에는 지팡이를 짚은 사람 하나, 말
한 마리.
같은 바다 안에 있으나 둘은 따로 서 있다. 서로 가까우면서도, 이미 하나씩 섬빛이
되었다.
떠나는 것을 바라보게 하고, 남은 것을 견디게 하는 이별의 빛이다.
사람도 말도 끝내 각자의 이별섬으로 남는다.
다만 섬과 섬 사이에도 물길은 있다. 따로 서서, 같은 배를 바라보는 것. 그것이 이
저녁의 마지막 동행이다.

The sea at dusk lies quietly in a yellowed light. Above the horizon, a small boat
drifts far away. Near at hand, a person leaning on a staff, and a horse. Though they
are within the same sea, the two stand apart. Close to each other, yet each has
already become a separate island of light. It is the light of parting: the light that lets
one look at what leaves, and helps what remains endure. In the end, both the
person and the horse remain as their own islands of parting.
