나무는 한쪽으로 기울고, 초가는 몸을 낮춘다. 노인은 허리를 굽힌 채 지팡이를 짚고
걸어간다.
밝은 날이라고 해서 삶의 어려움까지 사라지는 것은 아니다. 정오의 환한 빛
속에서도 사람은 굽는다. 남 보기에 좋은 날이, 정작 그에게는 가장 견디기 힘든 날일
수도 있다.
바람은 사람을 밀어내는 세월이며, 피할 수 없는 역사이고, 살아 있는 이에게
찾아오는 삶의 무게다.
노인은 바람과 맞서 싸우지 않는다. 몸을 낮추고 한 걸음씩 앞으로 간다. 쓰러지지
않기 위해 굽히고, 멈추지 않기 위해 지팡이를 짚는다.
견딤은 바람 없는 날을 기다리지 않는다. 바람 속에서도 자기 길을 잃지 않는 일이다.
그는 오늘도 간다. 굽은 등 위로 정오의 해가 환하다.

A bright day does not make the hardships of life disappear.
The wind is the years that push a person away, an inescapable history, the weight of
life that comes to everyone.
The old man does not stand and fight the wind. He lowers himself and goes forward,
one step at a time.
He bends so as not to fall; he leans on the staff so as not to stop.
To endure is not to wait for a windless day, but perhaps to keep one's own way,
even within the wind.
