온통 푸르다.
하늘도 바다도
한 빛으로 식어 있다.
해변의 마른 가지들은
서로 얽힌 채
낮게 엎드렸다.
한평생 맞은 바람이
그 몸에 남아 있다.
먼 바다 한가운데
바위섬 하나.
닿을 수 없는 거리에서
작은 점으로 떠 있다.
이것을 풍경이라
부를 수도 있다.
그러나 풍경이라 부르기에는
바람이 너무 가깝다.
어느새 옷자락이 흔들리고,
숨이 식는다.
보는 사람은
액자 밖에 있지 않다.
젖은 가지 사이로
이미 들어와 있다.
풍토는
멀리서 바라보는 것이 아니다.
그 안에 서서
같은 바람을 맞고,
함께 식는 것이다.
저 섬은 아직 멀다.
그러나 바람은
이미 여기 있다.

All is blue.
Sky and sea
have cooled into a single light.
On the shore the dry branches,
tangled together,
lie low to the ground.
Far out, in the middle of the sea,
a single rock-island
floats, a small dot.
You could call this
a landscape.
But the wind is too near.
Whoever looks
does not stand outside the frame.
Through the wet branches,
one has already entered.
Fūdo
is not something seen from afar.
It is to stand within it,
to receive the same wind,
and to share its chill.
