거센 물결이다.
검은 하늘 아래
흰 물보라가 일고,
바다는 끓는다.
그 한가운데
검은 새 몇 마리가
흐름을 거슬러 솟는다.
날개를 펴고
쏟아지는 물결을 버틴다.
밀려나지 않으려고,
가라앉지 않으려고.
누가 시켜서가 아니다.
살아 있으니까,
솟는 것이다.
휘는 것은
부러지지 않으려는 일이고,
솟는 것은
사라지지 않으려는 일이다.
어두운 물결 위에서

All is darkness, all fierce waves.
Under a black sky
white spray rises,
and the sea boils.
In the midst of it,
a few black birds
surge against the current.
Spreading their wings,
they withstand the crashing waves.
So as not to be driven back,

To bend
is to keep from breaking,

is to keep from vanishing.
