돌하르방은 움직이지 않는다. 까마귀들은 쉼 없이 술렁인다.
돌하르방은 제 머리를 새에게 내어주고, 새는 그 위에서 편안히 쉰다. 돌담 위로 검은
무리가 모이고, 멀리 바다에는 배 한 척이 나가 있다.
돌하르방은 그 배를 좇지 않는다. 다만 돌아올 자리를 지킨다.
비바람을 맞고, 수없는 해가 뜨고 지는 동안에도, 한자리에서 기다린다.
움직이지 않음으로써 떠난 이를 기다리고, 말하지 않음으로써 돌아올 길을 비춘다.
기다림에도, 이런 방식이 있다.

The dol hareubang does not move. The crows stir without rest. The stone guardian
offers its head to the birds, and the birds rest quietly upon it. A black flock gathers
on the stone wall, and far out at sea, a small boat has gone out. The dol hareubang
does not follow that boat. It simply keeps the place of return. Through wind and
rain, through the rising and setting of the sun, it waits in one place. By not moving,
it waits for the one who has left; by not speaking, it lights the way back.
