Dol Hareubang and Crows

The dol hareubang does not move. The crows stir without rest. The stone guardian offers its head to the birds, and the birds rest quietly upon it. A black flock gathers on the stone wall, and far out at sea, a small boat has gone out. The dol hareubang does not follow that boat. It simply keeps the place of return. Through wind and rain, through the rising and setting of the sun, it waits in one place. By not moving, it waits for the one who has left; by not speaking, it lights the way back.
