Rite to the Sea God

The bow goes to the sky and sea,
but the eyes keep turning to the boat far away.
The prayer to God, the heart to the boat.
Within one person, they go to two different places.

That small boat is the undertaking of someone crossing a boundary,
and this rock is the place to pray for that person's safety.
Every possible prayer has been prayed.
Still the heart cannot rest,
and even after the prayer is over,
the eyes cannot return from the sea.
Between the endless sea and the lonely land,
a single prayer joins the one who left and the one who stayed.
The oldest thing
one person could do for another
was to bring their hands together like this.
