In the Wind

A black rock
lies long.
A small boat to the left,
a bird to the right.
At a slant,
they ride the wind.
Below, a horse,
and against its neck
a person leans.
The horse does not move away.
It quietly accepts
the weight.
Horse, person, and bird
all lean.
This accord is no accident.
It is the wind's signature.
Under a wind blowing in one direction,
large and small
give their bodies
to the same side.
Leaning to the same side
means they are going through
the same thing together.

Endurance
is more than holding firm.
It is leaning together
so as not to break.
Leaning together
lasts longer
than standing straight alone.
