Hope did not lie in becoming bright, but in refusing to abandon one another’s place in darkness.
Dried-grass colour enters a darker phase. The sun blackens, the horizon wavers and the mountain contracts into a few lines. Yet existence does not disappear. Human and horse, old pine and old man, empty boat and crow testify to one another without any promise of light.
Beneath a ring-like sun and a few black mountain lines stand a thatched house, stone wall, bowed horse and stooped person; Hallasan becomes the condition of the whole scene.
