This atlas does not confine Byun Shi-Ji to the label “painter of Jeju.” It follows how representation learned in Japan, enclosed Seoul gardens, return at fifty, dried-grass colour, black line, horses, crows, empty boats and wavering horizons became a singular pictorial language.

Each entry proceeds from visible form to composition, historical context and interpretation. Metadata and interpretation are distinguished, and uncertain claims are not presented as fact.
