A Wavering Horizon

흔들리는 수평선

  • Enduring together at a distance
  • old man and horse
  • place of return

Before the painting

Rough waves cover the cliff as a tiny old man and horse look toward a distant boat and horizon; land and sea shake within the same wind.

Art-Historical Structure

The later painting shifts from individual grounding to relation across distance. Land becomes a direction of return for the boat, while the boat keeps possibility alive for those on shore.

What supports us need not stand beside us. A distant gaze or place of return may become a reason to remain.

Key Sentence

Even distant beings may become one another’s place of return and reason to remain.CORE 28 · A Wavering Horizon · 2005
