섬
Island
섬은 혼자다
그러나 고립된 것이 아니다
바다가 있다
바람이 있다
조류가 있다
새가 있다
섬이 섬인 것은
고립 때문이 아니라
자기 자신이기 때문이다
화가도 제주에서
섬이 되었다
그리고 비로소 자유로웠다

An island is alone.
But not isolated.
There is the sea.
There is the wind.
There are currents.
There are birds.
An island is an island
not because of its isolation
but because it is itself.
The painter, too, in Jeju
became an island.
And was, at last, free.
