A Wavering Horizon
A Wavering Horizon · 2005

The sea
rose roughly.

On the cliff,

one old man.

One horse.

When a wave
came up once,
the ground where the old man and the horse stood
looked narrow.

The old man
planted his stick hard.

The horse too
braced on its four legs.

They did not look

at each other.

Both
were looking at the sea.

I
drew the horizon.

The line

did not go
straight.

It wavered once
and joined again.

I painted the sea
wider.

Then
the man and the horse grew smaller.

In the painting
there was more sea.

Again
a wave came.

The horse
lowered its neck.

The old man's small back
lowered too.
