White House and Black House

The white house kept silent. The black house turned away. The war had ended, but hearts remained divided. Into that gap the painter drew a single equal line— an ochre wall, neither light nor darkness, but breathing space. Not a declaration, a tremor. Not a slogan, a breeze held at the tip of his brush. What crossed the divide was not force. It was one ochre line flowing between them.
