Femme
She is not sitting in a chair.
She is only resting for a moment.
Her skirt steeped in the dust of war,
the years stacked on fingers bare of rings—
yet her back remains straight
and the light in her eyes does not fade.
Dignity beyond exhaustion.
Grace beyond defeat.
The painter did not paint her.
He painted the small ember
burning inside her.
