About this painting
No. 7. Winner of the Kōfū Prize at the 34th Kōfūkai Exhibition, 25 March 1948. He was twenty-three. His teacher wrote: 'He is, I believe, probably the youngest member the Kōfūkai has ever had.'

- Won the highest award, the Kōfū Prize, at the 34th Kōfūkai Exhibition. At twenty-three he was its youngest recipient — an unprecedented event in the Japanese art world, reported by NHK as a topic of the week. The four submitted works were Woman in a Beret, Woman with a Mandolin, Early Spring and Autumn Landscape.
