Solitude
고독
45×33cm. A small canvas. Yet what it holds is not small.
Solitude was the painter's most faithful companion in Jeju. He did not flee Seoul's noise. He chose solitude. There are things audible only within it: the language of wind, the memory of stone walls, the whisper of ochre.
The figure in this painting is not overwhelmed by solitude. They have dropped anchor in it.

고독은 제주에서 화가의 가장 충실한 동반자였다. 서울의 소음에서 도망쳐 온 것이 아니다. 고독을 선택한 것이다. 고독 속에서만 들리는 것들이 있다. 바람의 언어, 돌담의 기억, 황토의 속삭임.
이 그림 속의 인물은 고독에 압도된 것이 아니다. 고독에 닻을 내리고 있다.
