Seoul Olympic Commemorative

The 1988 Seoul Olympics. Byun Shi-Ji received the commission for the commemorative painting.

He knew what to say to the world. In ochre. In Jeju's wind. In Korean earth. Instead of rushing toward the international, he departed from the most Korean.

When the world came to Korea, this painting declared what Korea could offer: not a spectacular show, but a quiet breath beneath an ochre sky.
