Garden Pavilion

English

Each pavilion in Biwon has its own name. But Byun Shi-Ji did not paint names.

Impressionist brushwork holds the air; realist structure defines the form. These two opposing attitudes coexist in a single canvas. That was possible because the painter belonged completely to neither.

Only one who stands at the boundary can hold two worlds simultaneously. As the pavilions of Biwon do. As Byun Shi-Ji did.
