2013년. 변시지 화가가 세상을 떠난 해. 마지막 작품.
붓을 내려놓는다. 영원히.
그러나 붓은 아직 그림 위에 있다. 마르지 않은 물감이 아직 빛을 반사한다. 화가는 떠났지만 그림은 남아 숨을 쉬고 있다.
마지막 그림 앞에서 우리는 묻는다. 화가는 무엇을 마지막으로 보았을까. 황토빛 하늘이었을까. 제주의 바람이었을까. 아직 완성되지 않은 무언가였을까.
대답은 그림 속에 있다. 당신이 보이는 것이 대답이다.

2013. The year Byun Shi-Ji left this world. The final work.
The brush is laid down. Forever.
Yet the brush is still upon the painting. Undried pigment still reflects light. The painter has gone, but the painting remains and breathes.
Before the final painting, we ask: what did the painter see last? Was it the ochre sky? Was it Jeju's wind? Was it something not yet complete?
