Rights & Requests

We encourage responsible public and scholarly engagement with the archive while protecting copyright and the integrity of each artwork.

General Principles

Copyright in works by Byun Shi-Ji is administered by the Estate of Byun Shi-Ji / ARTSHIJI. Viewing images on this website does not grant permission to reproduce, distribute, publish or commercially exploit them. Legitimate quotation for criticism or scholarship must identify the source and copyright holder clearly.

1. Image Licensing

Please provide the artwork title, date, intended medium, period of use, expected audience, image dimensions and whether the use is commercial. For online publication, include the proposed URL and the period during which the image will remain public.

2. Scholarly and Educational Use

Please submit the researcher’s name and affiliation, project title, research purpose, requested artworks or archival materials, and the planned presentation or publication date. High-resolution files and extensive reproduction may require separate approval even for non-commercial scholarship.

3. Publication Permission

Please state the publisher, author or editor, publication title, language, country of publication, initial print run, retail price, print or electronic format, image placement and size, and whether an artwork will be used on the cover.

4. Exhibition Loans

Institutional requests should include the institution and exhibition title, curator, venue and dates, requested works, insurance arrangements, facilities report, transport, security and environmental-control plans, and whether a catalogue will be published. Loans remain subject to condition, availability and schedule.
