Changgyeonggung Palace

Changgyeonggung. Degraded to Changgyeongwon during Japanese colonial rule, turned into a zoo, restored in 1983.

In 1969 when this was painted, the palace still carried its wounds. But the painter did not paint the wound. He painted the time layered upon the tiles, the seasons held inside the stone walls.

Even over distorted history, nature does what it must. Flowers bloom when spring comes, leaves fall when autumn arrives. That was how Changgyeonggung survived.
