쉰의 귀향은 완성된 정체성으로의 복귀가 아니었다. 제주를 다시 본다는 것은 바다와 섬, 의례와 가족의 노동을 낯선 조건으로 받아들이는 일이었다. 이 장에서 풍토는 고향의 배경이 아니라 인간보다 먼저 존재하고 관람자까지 감싸는 세계가 된다.Return at fifty was not a recovery of a completed identity. To see Jeju again meant receiving sea, islands, ritual and family labour as unfamiliar conditions. Here fūdo becomes not the background of home, but a world that precedes the human and draws the viewer inside.
푸른 바다와 바위섬, 멀리 이어지는 산을 앞에 두고 조랑말 한 마리가 서 있다. 색은 아직 마르지 않았고, 고향은 익숙하면서도 멀다.A pony stands before a blue coast, rock island and distant mountains; the palette is still moist with colour, and home remains strangely distant.
